Budgeting Your Holiday Spending
December 7, 2016
Whether you’re recovering from filing for bankruptcy, or trying to avoid filing, this time of year can be a struggle for many Americans. With holidays like Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa and Ramadan, the tendency is to spend more money than you have. During these times spending money can be confused for celebrating. It’s always a good idea to celebrate the holidays and traditions that your family holds dear to you, but don’t confuse spending and celebrating. Here are some helpful tips for helping you keep your holidays festive without breaking the budget.
It is estimated that the average person will spend $805 during the holidays. There are simple ways to lower this amount that will help you still feel like you’re celebrating, but not overspending.
Eat in! Instead of making reservations at your favorite restaurant, why not dig up some of your family recipes and prepare them at home? Preparing a meal together brings families together to perform a task. Not only do you spend less money by preparing your food at home, but you also get the joy of making memories with friends and family in your kitchen. Be inclusive in your preparation. Allow others into the process of preparation. Also allow others to bring food to share in your feast.
Craft it! Handmade gifts will never go out of style. The thought and time that goes into gifts that have been handmade by you, are treasures. Never underestimate the power of a handmade gift. You can also include words that, while costing nothing to you, can be a precious gift to those around you. Words hold value and weight, and cannot be thrown away or go out of style.
